Major League Eating

Kobayashi, Hot Dog Champ, Declares Free Agency (Wall Street Journal) July 2, 2010
* "Perhaps taking a cue from LeBron James, who became a free agent this week, competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi is declaring his independence and striking out on his own. To do so, he’s willing to sit out this weekend’s hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous on Coney Island, the largest and best-known event in his, er, sport."
* "The six-time winner of the iconic event says that a contract proposed by Major League Eating, the sanctioning body for the Nathan’s contest and about 80 others, is too restrictive."
